Azokle Auth vs Duo Security
Duo Security is built for enterprise surveillance of employee authentication. It reports device health, location, and login patterns to corporate administrators. Azokle Auth is purpose-built for individual privacy — your codes, your device, zero corporate reporting.
Feature-By-Feature Matrix
The Empirical Privacy Proof
Verified evidence derived from RFC standards, source audits, and official privacy policies.
Duo Reports Device Health to Administrators
Duo Security's "Device Insight" feature reports your device's OS version, jailbreak/root status, screen lock state, disk encryption status, and location to your organization's Duo administrators.
Azokle Auth reports nothing to anyone. It operates with zero network connections during TOTP generation. The only data that exists is on your device, in your control.
Authentication Events Logged in Cisco Cloud
Every authentication event through Duo is logged in Cisco's cloud infrastructure, tied to your identity, device ID, IP address, and timestamp — indefinitely retained by default.
Azokle Auth has no server side. TOTP codes are computed locally using your seed and the current Unix timestamp (HMAC-SHA1 per RFC 6238). No logs, no events, no cloud.
Cloud Dependency = Single Point of Failure
Duo's push notifications and verification backend require constant connectivity to Cisco's cloud. During Duo outages, users cannot authenticate to their own systems.
Azokle Auth works completely offline. TOTP codes are deterministic: given a seed and a timestamp, the code is always computable — on a flight, in a bunker, or when the internet is down.
Enterprise Pricing — Privacy Shouldn't Cost Extra
Duo's full privacy and security feature set requires an enterprise subscription. Basic users on the free tier have limited policy controls and no advanced privacy settings.
Azokle Auth is free, open source, and privacy-complete for every user. There is no premium tier — privacy is a baseline right, not an enterprise upsell.
Duo is excellent for enterprise environments where administrators need visibility into authentication events. But for privacy-conscious individuals, Duo is a surveillance tool — reporting your device state, location, and every login event to Cisco's cloud. Azokle Auth gives you RFC-compliant 2FA with zero corporate oversight and zero cloud dependency.
